Cheryl Taylor Obituary

Cheryl S. Taylor NORFOLK - Cheryl Shalene Swoope "Cheri" Taylor, 51, of the 4900 block of Cape Henry Ave., ended her courageous battle with cystic fibrosis Friday, Sept. 10, 2010. Born in California, she came to Norfolk as a toddler and was raised in Kempsville. Cheri was a successful and respected Realtor since 1983. She was a member of the "Million Dollar Sales Club" and won many awards, including "Listing Agent of the Year." She is survived by her loving husband, Bill; guardian child, Christina; caring and supportive parents, Charlie and Mary Swoope of Virginia Beach; her very close sister, Cindy Swoope of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; her brothers, Charlie Jr. and Bobby; and a host of family and friends who she adored. Her smile will always be with us. She loved God and all of his creatures, especially her dog Bunky. She loved people and held a special place for all animals and children. She was a mentor to an at-risk 10-year-old girl. She was the former president of the Fox Hall Civic League spearheading drives to improve her neighborhood and fight crime. Cheri lived a full and active life enjoying sailing, games, cooking, theater, flowers, birds, dancing, white water rafting, feeding the homeless and volunteering at her church. She loved to give. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted by Father John Baldwin at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5181 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 17. Memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Virginia or the SPCA. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.

I recently learned of Cheri's passing from a friend. Cheri and I worked together when we were both with Long & Foster Real Estate. It's been years since Cheri and I had seen or even spoke to each other but I always remember her perky personality and contagious smile. Cheri will be missed but the memories that everyone has of Cheri will be cherished forever. My condolences to her family.

When I read Cheri's tribute I thought, "That's the Cheri I knew in high school." She truly helped the sun shine brighter! My thoughts and prayers are with you. May you feel God's arms around you especially close during this time.

I met Cheri, in 1995, when I was president of Fox Hall Civic League. She was just as everyone said a go getter, encourager with a radiant smile. I still remember the day she was over my house folding newsletters with me and my 'friend'. She smiled real big and said "You are made for each other. I can tell. When are you going to get married?" She was right! Bill and I married a few months after and we still talk about that night! Also, Cheri is a true example to all who deal with critical health issues b/c she lived out Philippians 1:21 "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." She was content either way b/c she knew God was in control. Cheri is one to be admired and followed as an example. Bill and I will hold Bill and Chrisy, and all family members in our prayers. I am grateful I was given the opportunity to know Cheri and I look forward to seeing her in our eternal home. God Bless and comfort you all.

Cheri was our "Baby Doll" since the day she was born. She had a smile that could light up the world. She was loved by so many. Her family will forever feel the emptiness of her passing. Rest in peace, Cheri. You are an Angel now, and will be forever missed. Love and Kisses. Aunt Debbie Louisville, KY

Cherrie was a warm, bubbly, and special person. I was fortunate to work with her in the Fox Hall Civic League. Cherrie was always the go to gal. If you needed something done, Cherrie was always there to lend a hand. She was never a complainer and always had a mega watt smile going on her face. I know her family will miss her terribly; but, please take comfort in knowing that Cherrie is in another home that is so much better than here on earth and that she is at peace.

You are in my prayers. May the Lord comfort you and hold you close during this time of sorrow.

I remember when Cheri would be one to give blessings to animals on Blessing of the Animals' Sundays at church. She was always positive. She never let CF get her down. She also loved the Lord and is there now. I have no doubt in my mind. We will miss her.

Cheryl was so very special and touched everyone's heart in which she came in contact with. Knowing Cheryl for over 20 years i have never met a nicer, kinder person and was such a true giver. I will never meet another person with a kinder heart in this world. She touched my heart in so many ways, she was such a true fighter. Cheryl is in such a better place now and i know she is so happy to be with God.I will never, ever forget you Cheryl, you put up a great fight.I sure know that you are dancing in the skys now.
