Samuel Oliver Obituary

Samuel C. Oliver III FRANKLIN - Samuel C. Oliver III, 71, passed away Sept. 20, 2010 at his home in Franklin. Born in Smithfield, N.C., he was the son of the late Thelma and Samuel Columbus Oliver Jr. Sam was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. He retired from ViaSystems Technologies as a senior engineer. Survivors include his loving wife, Marti D. Oliver; daughter, Anne Catherine O. Puchyr of Greensboro, N.C.; sons, Samuel C. Oliver IV and wife Cheryl of St. Louis, Mo., William D. Oliver and wife Jeannie of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren, Lauren, Kathleen, Anna, Benjamin, Emily Ayn, and William Jr.; brothers, William G. Oliver and wife Virginia of St. Petersburg, Fla., Josiah J. Oliver and wife Betty of Richmond; special niece, Susan Oliver Stacks Wilkins and husband Rick; and numerous extended family members. A funeral will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 11:30 a.m. in Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 N. High St., Franklin, VA 23851, by the Rev. Lafayette T. Wilkins. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to Prostate Cancer Research, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA 90401 or online at www.pcf.org; or to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 601 Childrens Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.
