Marjorie Tillett Obituary

Marjorie G. Tillett CHESAPEAKE - Our beloved Marjorie Godfrey "Marj" Tillett of the 4500 block of Miarfield Arch, quietly answered the call to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. Born July 5, 1939 in Norfolk, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Ernest M. Godfrey Sr. and Alice Davis Godfrey. She was also predeceased by a brother, Miles Clifton Sutton. Marjorie was the widow of Frank Kenneth Tillett Sr., who predeceased her in January 2010. She received her education in Norfolk public schools and did further study at Old Dominion College (University). Marjorie worked for several years in the City of Norfolk's Water Department. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, where she was active in the Chancel Choir, Grace and the Women's Guild. Marjorie had a loving, humorous and generous spirit and shared her time, talents and possessions with those in need. She leaves to remember with love and gratitude one son, Frank Tillett Jr. (Irene); seven daughters, Dorene Taylor (Michael), Darlene Tillett, Arlene Howard (Carlos), Serene Fuentes, Sonyo Bond, Sheila Holas (Alexander) and Lena Lewis; one brother, Ernest M. Godfrey Jr. (Angela); one sister, Virginia Hill (Linwood); 17 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. The viewing will be from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, followed by a celebration of her life from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home. A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at noon at First Calvary Baptist Church, 813 Henry St., Norfolk, Dr. J. L. White, pastor. Her body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. www.carlosahowardfuneralhomes.com.

Mrs. Holas, sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Although your mother will be missed; you know that she is at peace. May God give you and yours strength in the days ahead and know that although I am unable to attend I am present in spirit. From the Hyman Family
