Clayton McGary Obituary

Clayton J. McGary VIRGINIA BEACH - Clayton Joseph McGary, 72, passed away peacefully Sept. 21, 2010. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Loretta Fendt- McGary and Gilbert McGary. Mr. McGary honorably served 20 years in the United States Navy. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired in 1976. He subsequently worked several years as a civilian with the U.S. government. He is survived by two daughters, Karen McGary and Kelly Brewer, her husband Michael; and one loving grandson, Mike Brewer. Coaching girl's softball was one of his life's passions. He spent many years as coach with the Sun Devils traveling softball team. He also volunteered with the Salem High School and Princess Anne High School girls softball teams. In 1993, he was inducted into the Tidewater Sports Hall of Fame. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Virginia, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311. Visitation will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. A graveside funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5301 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.
