Jay and Janice, I am so sorry to hear of Marie's passing. Because she and Julian were such good friends with my grandparents, Shirley and Louis Tarkington, and we all went to the same church together, Jay and I spent many hours together. We camped together, played together, and all the wonderful memories I have of growing up are intertwined with your family. I used to love coming to your house with Grandma and Grandpa when she and Marie would make brunswick stew in that huge black cauldron, Grandpa and Julian would do their thing, and we'd play under the grapevine. And Marie always made the best apple dumpling I ever put in my mouth! I will always treasure those memories and the wonderful times I had. My love to you all!

Jay and Janice,

I have many memories of your Mother, as she lived across the street from my parents for many years. She and your Dad were great friends to my Mother and Dad and they shared many similar interests, which made them close neighbors. I think my most vivid memory of your Mother would have to be seeing her outside working in her large garden early in the morning on a summer day or mowing the manicured lawn. She took great pride in both and it truly showed. I often received a treat from her garden, as she was always willing to share. She was a hard working lady who was generous and supportive to her neighbors and friends.
Bless you both as you feel the loss in your life and may you be comforted by your sweetest memories.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
