Marcelle Ruehrmund Obituary

Marcelle Ruehrmund VIRGINIA BEACH - Marcelle Virginia Lash Ruehrmund of Cape Henry Shores, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Mrs. Ruehrmund was born Oct. 6, 1917 to Florence and Charles D. Lash in Tulsa, Okla. After graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1934, she earned a B.A. from Stanford University in 1938 and her RN from the Stanford School of Nursing in 1941. Marcelle proudly served in the Navy Nurse Corps during World War II and in 1945 married Naval aviator, Paul L. Ruehrmund Jr. (U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1942). Her career became that of Navy wife and mother - serving in scouts, Navy Relief, Red Cross and as a longtime Alzheimer's caregiver. Her hobbies were playing bridge, gardening and antiques. Marcelle was a life member of the Stanford Alumnae Club and enjoyed the Retired Officer's Wives Club (ROWS). Mrs. Ruehrmund was predeceased by her husband, U.S. Navy Capt. Paul Ruehrmund Jr. and daughter Virginia. She is survived by her children, Paul L. Ruehrmund III and wife Mary of Virginia Beach, and Shelley R. Kuhn and husband Rodney of Little Meadows, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Ruehrmund Fisher, Anne Ruehrmund Burton, Michelle Kuhn Parker, Lisa Kuhn Schmidt, and Zachary Andrew Kuhn and their spouses. Per Marcelle's wishes, her body was donated to the Anatomical Society of Virginia for medical research and there will be no service at this time. Any memorial gifts can be made to the charity of choice.
