James W. Austin KILL DEVIL HILLS - James W. "Jimmy" Austin, 73, passed away, unexpectedly, from complications of heart disease, at his residence in Kill Devil Hills Friday morning, Oct. 1, 2010. A native of Dare County, Jimmy was born in Hatteras, to the late James W. Austin and the late Florence Ballance Austin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, James Eugene Austin; a brother, Richard "Dickie" Austin; and a sister, Amanda Scarborough. Mr. Austin was a commercial fisherman, a charter member of the Nags Head Fire Department, and the owner of Austin Fish Company in Nags Head. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Hughes Austin, of the Kill Devil Hills residence. In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Debbie Austin of Nags Head; granddaughter, Tiffany Simpson and husband Zeke of Wanchese; and great-granddaughter, Elly Simpson, also of Wanchese. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 3, at Twiford Funeral Home's Colony Chapel, Manteo, with the Rev. David J. Daniels officiating.
