James Austin Obituary

James W. Austin KILL DEVIL HILLS - James W. "Jimmy" Austin, 73, passed away, unexpectedly, from complications of heart disease, at his residence in Kill Devil Hills Friday morning, Oct. 1, 2010. A native of Dare County, Jimmy was born in Hatteras, to the late James W. Austin and the late Florence Ballance Austin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, James Eugene Austin; a brother, Richard "Dickie" Austin; and a sister, Amanda Scarborough. Mr. Austin was a commercial fisherman, a charter member of the Nags Head Fire Department, and the owner of Austin Fish Company in Nags Head. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Hughes Austin, of the Kill Devil Hills residence. In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Debbie Austin of Nags Head; granddaughter, Tiffany Simpson and husband Zeke of Wanchese; and great-granddaughter, Elly Simpson, also of Wanchese. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 3, at Twiford Funeral Home's Colony Chapel, Manteo, with the Rev. David J. Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends at their Copley Drive residence in Kill Devil Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Outer Banks Dare Challenge, P.O. Sandra, Tessie and I are so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. We shall remember you and your family in our prayers. God will surely give you peace and comfort through this sad time.. It seems like yesterday when I met Jimmy at Dykstra's gas station. I was stationed at KDH Coast Guard Station. I didn't know jimmy was my age. That was 1956. We pray God's blessings for you and family.
