Miles Westbrook Obituary

Miles E. Westbrook Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Miles E. Westbrook Jr., passed away peacefully at home Sept. 29, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Miles was born in Chicago Aug. 25, 1937. He and his wife, Ellen, raised their family and resided in Crystal Lake, Ill., until his retirement in Aug. 2002 from Zurich North America, Schaumburg, Ill. On Sept. 2, 2002 they moved to Virginia Beach. Miles was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He volunteered at Lake Taylor Hospital as a wheelchair pusher, led the Prince of Peace men's Bible study and worked beside his wife Ellen on the Prince of Peace Food Closet. Miles enjoyed being a member of the Prince of Peace Prime Timers and loved working crossword puzzles, listening to jazz music and especially loved to walk as much as six miles per day. He was predeceased by his father, Miles E. Westbrook Sr.; his mother, Grace L. Westbrook and a sister, Mary Ellen Henry. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Ellen M. Westbrook; two daughters, Lori Westbrook of California and Donna Vaughn of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Bryan and Jenna Sveum of California; two brothers, Richard (Diane) Westbrook of Virginia Beach and Ronald Westbrook of California; two sisters, Debbie (Larry) Fink of Forrest, Va., and Wendy Westbrook-Gouon (Regis) of St. Barth; many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many caring friends. A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 424 Kings Grant Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.hollomon-brown.com.
