Annie Slater Obituary

Annie Mae Slater NORFOLK - Annie Mae Slater, 95, of the 1000 block of Louisa St., passed away Sept. 29, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born to the late Hattie and Robert McClain in Lamar, S.C., where she also received her education. She was a member of St. James AME Church, Norfolk, where she served on the Usher Board. Annie was a devoted mother and loved everyone. She was predeceased by her husband, Conny G.; two sons, Herbert Lee and Raymond and one brother. She is survived by one son, Randolph Slater; one daughter, Greer Fonville; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great- grandchildren; caregivers, Teresa and Anna and nursing staff; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. James AME Church, Berkley, 501 Dinwiddie St., the Rev. Norman Vick, pastor. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel. Family and friends will assemble at 1000 Louisa St., Norfolk, one hour prior to service for procession to the church. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
