Lina Smith Obituary

Lina R. Smith PORTSMOUTH - Lina R. "Bobby" Smith, 87, of the 2800 block of Roanoke Ave., died Oct. 2, 2010, in Portsmouth. She was a native of Brunswick County, Virginia. She was food service manager for the Naval Resale System and retired in 1982 after 34 years of service. She was also a caterer and retired in 2008 after 25 years of service. She was educated in Portsmouth public schools and Virginia Polytechnic Institute Leadership Academy. She was a member of Fourth Baptist Church, Portsmouth, for 60 years. She was a member of Beauty of World Temple No. 40 IBPOE, NAACP, Brighton and Prentis Park Civic leagues and Citizen Patrol. She also received numerous honors and awards for leadership and service to the community. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara J. Reynolds of Portsmouth and Shirley M. Smith (Kenneth); one grandchild, Edward L. Moody, all of Alexandria; four great-grandchildren, Courtney, Alyse, Danielle, Kayla; first cousins, Ruth Wilkins Moore and Russell Wilkins, both of Pasadena, Calif., and Thomas Wilkins of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice Wilkins Robertson and Theodore Robertson and one sister, Viola Jones. A funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. in Fourth Baptist Church with Dr. Charles W. Beamon presiding. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stand Up To Cancer, SPCA, or Fourth Baptist Scholarship Fund.
