Marjorie Young Obituary

Marjorie M. Young VIRGINIA BEACH - Marjorie M. Young died unexpectedly in the home she was born in while visiting her sister in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada, Sept. 29, 2010. She was the daughter of John and Ursula Thomas and the widow of U.S. Navy Cmdr. Howard I. Young. Her parents and brothers, William Thomas and Harvey Thomas of Ontario, Canada preceded her in death; as did her sister, Helen Reiger of Pensacola, Fla. Mrs. Young is survived by her daughter, Paige Crunk and husband Barry; her son, Greg Young and his wife Kim, all of Virginia Beach; and a sister, Mary C. Thomas of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. She was a proud "Maw-Maw" to her grandchildren, Courtney Crunk McIntosh and husband Donald, Dane Crunk, Trevor Young, and Haley Young. Marge and Howie had a wonderful marriage and together experienced both the unique joys and friendships that were formed in the tight-knit naval aviation community, as well as the challenges that came with the Vietnam War. As the Skipper's wife, she was a strong support to the squadron wives. Her joy came from playing bridge with her friends, working in her garden and entertaining in her home. Many were the lucky beneficiaries of her homemade soup. She was very active in her church where she participated on the bereavement committee and was a frequent supporter of the food pantry. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Food Pantry at Eastern Shore Chapel. Mrs. Young will be buried at a later date with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Scottish prayer

From THE DIARY OF AN OLD SOUL by George MacDonald (1880)

Care thou for mine whom I must leave behind;
Care that they know who 'tis for them takes care;
Thy present patience help them still to bear;
Lord, keep them clearing, growing, heart and mind;
In one they oneness us together bind;
Last earthly prayer with which to thee I cling -
Grant that, save love, we owe not anything.

God bless
