Lenore Cross Obituary

Lenore H. Cross NORFOLK - Lenore Huesman Cross passed to her eternal home Oct. 7, 2010. Lenore was predeceased by her husband, U.S. Navy Cmdr. Robert Cross; sisters, Wilma Shandrick, Mary and Lucie and brother, John. She was born Dec. 18, 1911 in Iowa and attended nursing school in Chicago. This was interrupted by caring for her ill sister for one year. She completed her RN training and cared for others over a long nursing career that included service as a Navy nurse in World War II. She moved to Norfolk in 1944. Lenore was the oldest member of Trinity Lutheran Church, having been a faithful member since 1944. She had been a resident of Province Place for the last 10 years. Left to cherish her memory are a sister-in-law, Voline Huesman; nephew, Gary Huesman; nieces, Rebecca Shandrick, Christine Frantzen, Kathy Pope, Jean Huesman, Jane Hurst, Luci Huesman; and special friends and "My Norfolk family," Mildred and Reid Carawan and Sharon and Ralph Knorr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, Trinity Lutheran Church Sanctuary Fund, 6001 Granby St., Norfolk, VA 23505. A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
