Ray Gibson Obituary

Ray Graham Gibson VIRGINIA BEACH - Ray Graham Gibson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, entered into our Father's heavenly kingdom Oct. 4, 2010 at his residence. Born Sept. 11, 1929 in Rockingham, N.C., he was a son of the late Luke and Edna Marks Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ella Virginia Gibson; his brothers, Robert and Luke and a niece, Lynn. Ray was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 29 years of service and also served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He was a longtime member of Norview United Methodist Church and was currently a member of New Life Center. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and was involved with the Order of the Arrow with the Boy Scouts in his earlier years. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Darlene Payne of Norfolk; her sons and their families, Charles and his wife, Ginger and their daughter, Audrey of Virginia Beach; Davin and his girlfriend, Victoria and their children, Davin Jr., Chloe and Alex of Norfolk; his son, Mark Gibson and his wife, Linda and their daughter, Jennifer of Raleigh, N.C.; his sister, Earline G. Waddell of Rockingham, N.C.; his brother, Paul C. Gibson of Charlotte, N.C.; as well as his cats, Bo and Dino and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at New Life Center, 3310 Indian River Road, Chesapeake, VA 23323 (757-545-5093) where memorial contributions may also be made. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.altmeyer.com. Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, is assisting the family.
