Harry MacDonald Obituary

Harry G. MacDonald VIRGINIA BEACH - Harry Goodrich MacDonald, 76, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Marcella of Virginia Beach; four daughters; two sons; 11 grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; numerous nieces, cousins, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and one great-great-niece and nephew. Following enlistment in the United States Army, he worked in home and retail delivery for several dairies in New Jersey. Harry retired as a supervisor for Tuscan Dairy Inc. in Union, N.J., after 24 years. During that time he established and served for six years as president of the Tuscan Employees Federal Credit Union. He was a charter and life member of the Summit, N.J.,Volunteer First Aid Squad as well as life member of the Iselin, N.J., First Aid Squad. Following retirement from the dairy industry, Harry enjoyed a second career as manager of division 819 Transit Employee Credit Union in Irvington, N.J., before moving to Virginia Beach in 2003. Harry enjoyed many years serving as a consultant to several New York and New Jersey credit unions as well as being an active volunteer for many organizations including the Iselin Republican Committee; chairman of the Woodbridge, N.J. Rent Control Board and as a board member of the Village Gate, Edison, N.J.; the Virginia Beach Foodbank and the Virginia Beach Board of Elections. His outside interests included spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing cribbage, weekly poker games with "The Guys" and following his favorite sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. A memorial service will be held Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. in New Dover United Methodist Church, 687 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ 08820, where the family will receive relatives and friends. Burial will take place Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. in Rosedale Cemetery, School Street, Manchester- by-the-Sea, MA 01944. In lieu of flowers, Harry requested that contributions be made to the Roxbury Presbyterian Church, Social Impact Center, 328 Warren Street, Roxbury, MA 02119, or to a charity of your choice.
