Golden Mackey Obituary

Golden Mackey CHESAPEAKE - Golden Mackey, 77, of the 700 block of South Lake Circle, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 in his home. Born in Currituck, N.C., Mr. Mackey was a retired butcher and owner of Village Wholesale Meats. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lena M. Mackey; a daughter, Monique Mackey Gordon and a son, Mark L. Mackey, both of Jamaica, N.Y.; two sisters, Christine Mackey of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Ethel Mackey Brown of Winterville, N.C.; and two brothers, Rufus A. Mackey Sr. of Brooklyn and Ernest Gibbs of Greenville, N.C. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, in Dome of Canaan Baptist Church, 1209 S. Dominion Blvd., with the Rev. Benjamin Mackey and the Rev. Theodore R. Little Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. The family of Golden Genesis (Gennis) Mackey, born of Indian-African American ancestry in Currituck Township, NC, is honored posthumously this Veteran's Day for his contributions in the Korean Conflict. The family sorely misses you for you were a beloved loved one.
