Roy Dalrymple Obituary

Roy A. Dalrymple VIRGINIA BEACH - Roy "R.D." Dalrymple, 64, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Oct. 13, 2010. He was born Dec. 23, 1945 in Staten Island, N.Y., where he was a 1963 graduate of New Dorp High School. He was predeceased by his mother, Harriet S. Valentine and stepfather, Robert E. Valentine and his wife Connie Dalrymple. After a brief stint in the Army, Roy married his high school sweetheart, Connie, and became a New York City police officer. Several years later, he moved his family to Virginia Beach, where he started his own fence and deck company. Thirty five years later, he was still running that company up until days before he passed away. Roy was most happy when surrounded by friends and family, especially at the home he built himself. He had a love for fishing, landscaping, and building or fixing things! He was generous and selfless in nature and everyone's best friend. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Roy is survived by his two daughters, Karen Dalrymple Stewart and her husband Mark Stewart of Virginia Beach, and Amy Dalrymple Saunders and her husband Randy Saunders of Coronado, Calif.; his four beloved grandchildren, Brock and Kelsey Saunders of Coronado, Calif., and Griffin and Camryn Stewart of Virginia Beach; his sister and best friend, Joyce A. Howe of Chesapeake; sister-in-law, Eileen Shields Molina of Staten Island, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews; and close friend and partner, Cavill Kindred, whose love and support over the past several months brought him great joy. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. Following the service, the family will receive friends and hold a celebration of Roy's life at his home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 4116 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

Not sure what to say?

October 23, 2010

Roy taught me many things about working hard. He worked with many student aged kids and gave us a chance to work and go to school.

To this day I still use the phrase "I'm working in a big circle I've got a big circle going on.". I also still say youse guys as opposed to always saying y'all.

For the past few years, I was able to reconnect with Roy as a fellow business man. I enjoyed this time as well. Strong and giving at the same time - that was Roy.

I was very lucky to be Roy's son in law for the past 16 years. He was the toughest and most selfless person ive ever known. He did so much for so many people, and I could never have begun to repay him for all he did for me. He was a great man and Ill miss him a lot.
