Shirley Upton

Shirley H. Upton NORFOLK - Shirley Ruth Hammer Upton, 80, passed away quietly in her home in Norfolk Oct. 15, 2010. Born July 21, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Mo., she was the daughter of Nona Hammer and the late C. Emery Hammer. She was a graduate of Norview High School, a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and a former day care owner. Mrs. Upton was the widow of Quinton C. Upton Jr. and is survived by her mother, Nona Hammer; her children: Roberta Upton of Norfolk; Mary Upton Zamora and husband, Joel Zamora of Hephzibah, Ga.; Kathy Upton and husband Curtis McBride of Azle, Texas; and David Upton of Winston-Salem, N.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nicholas Zamora and wife, Moana of Georgia; Melissa Zamora of Georgia; Rebecca Evans of North Carolina; Susan Evans McDonnell and husband Chance of Texas; Nathanial and Geoffrey Upton of North Carolina. Mrs.Upton was predeceased by her sister, Carolyn H. Garris. Services will be private, for her immediate family only, and will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation & Burial Society of Hampton Roads.
