Sorry to hear of James' passing. Words can't express sympathy at a time like this. My prayers are with his family.
Yes, he always had a smile and a devilish way about him. He left many friends from Liberty Park.

I met James at Ruffner through Michael Harrison (Liberty Park). He always had a smile and was big fun to be around. May God comfort the family in their hour of bereavement. R.I.P James

I met and shared classes with James at Ruffner Jr. High School in the 1950s. We also shared classes at Booker T Washington. He was always the same; sweet and down to earth and a lot of fun. Several of his old childhood friends attended the lovely services for James on last Friday at Temple of Praise Church in DC; Harold Barron, Joe Rose, Benjamin Hyman, Pastor Ronald Stith, Donald (Duck) Bullock, Denvert Boney, Winford Lamb, Tony Howard, Ethel Skinner Horton, Mildred Brown, Brenda William Murray, Andrea Gibson Green and myself. I'm sure there were others. We all had fond memories to share about James and were honored to be able to attend his homegoing service. Rest in Peace James. You will be missed.

Take comfort in knowing that we have a special guardian angel to watch over us all. As he was just that kind of a guy.

We will miss James. He was a wonderfully charming person to be around and could make the whole room laugh with his comments. May Gods arms wrap around you, comfort you in your time of sadess and fill your heart with joyous memories. You are in my family's prayers.

My most humorous memory of James was when we were out Christmas caroling with the Youth Group of our church (many years ago). Harold and James had borrowed their mother's blue 'deuce and a quarter,' and Harold ran it into a ditch as he was trying to park at Deacon Lee's house. Everyone was afraid of what Mrs. Viola was going to say. Those of us who grew up with you, James, will truly miss you.

I will miss James as I always see him hand dancing as he did so well while we were at Booker T in Norfolk. He was always the sunshine in the lives of all he met. RIP. He will be deeply missed. Condolences to the family and a big hug for my Godson, Shawn. Love, Muriel Cauthen (Lady Myrrh (WPFW-FM 89.3)

To the Churchill family (Pam) and all of you, I remember the times in Liberty Park vividly and Booker T. I pray that in this time of sorrow you might be lifted up by Psalm 121, "Lift your eyes to the hills from whence comethe your help...it comes from the Lord". Be encouraged and strengthed.

Church was like a second father to me- and I loved him as such. He will be missed so so much! I have many fond memories of he and my mom, Adrienne. He was a good man who was always willing to help. You will be deeply missed Church! You were a good friend to my mom, and treated her well - and for that I thank you and love you. May God Bless your soul.
My condolences to the family.
