Hyman Hy Gordan LOS ANGELES - Hyman Hy Gordon died Oct. 23, 2010. Born in Portsmouth June 25, 1928, he was predeceased by his parents, Ruby Joseph and Sarah Gordon; daughter, Janet Gordon; and sister, Audrey Danoff. Survivors include a son, Ruben Joseph Gordon and two granddaughters, Rio Ren'ee James and Debbie Gordon, all of Los Angeles; a brother, Alvin Gordon and wife Elaine of Memphis, Tenn.; his dear friend, Margo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Hy loved to learn about new things and worked at a variety of jobs in his life. Late in life, he sold time shares and prepared taxes for H&R Block. Hy did not live to work, he worked to live. He did not wish to amass worldly possessions. This philosophy allowed him to work, then travel and keep the cycle going. World travel was a great focus and his explorations took him across several continents to Asia, India, North America, Australia and Europe. Bathing in the Ganges and communing with his guru were signal moments for Hy, but his daily walks on the beach on both coasts of America were just as important. Laughter, loving, giving and sharing were so important to Hy Gordon. His spirit of adventure lives on in his favorite words, "Why not?" His positive nature endeared him to people of all ages and walks of life. Hy was a man who was forever young. He embraced new ideas and choices, loved meeting new people, and never knew a stranger. Music was important to him and he amassed quite a collection of all types. He was also a gifted writer; his descriptive letters were a joy to receive as he traveled abroad. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hiking in all terrains, and appreciated all of nature. He always had a fun ride and even named some of his cars: "Buttercup," a large yellow Dodge van and "Old Paint," a white Honda Prelude. In Florida, he owned a dark blue convertible Miata. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at noon in Gomley Chesed Synagogue by Rabbi David Goldstein. Burial will be in Gomley Chesed Cemetery.
