Richard Cover Obituary

Richard H. Cover Jr. CHESAPEAKE - Richard H. "Rick" Cover Jr. passed away at home in his sleep after a long illness. Rick was born Dec. 7, 1960 in Cleveland. He was the third of seven children born to Joanne and Richard Cover Sr. Rick joined the U.S. Navy in 1978 and met his wife Mary on his first pre-commissioning ship (USS John Hancock DD981) in Pascagoula, Miss., in 1979. Rick and Mary fell in love and were married within three months of knowing each other. Rick and Mary had always felt a sort of déjà vu about each other, like they have been together before in another life. They both believed they will be together again, if not in this world then in the next in heaven with our Holy Father. They shared a love that most people never find. Rick loved spending time with all his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Rick was a die-hard Browns fan through thick and thin. Rick also liked going to bingo with his wife and was an avid reader of action-packed military novels. Rick liked to bowl and play sports when he was younger. Rick loved the U.S. Navy and his family very much. He was very proud of his service. Rick was a Gulf War veteran and served in Desert Storm. Rick retired in 1996 and went to work for WRSystems for three years before going on disability with PKD - ESRD. The following list is the people that Rick loved and who loved Rick and will miss him dearly, especially the children that knew him as papaw or uncle: Rick was a father to our son, John Patrick Cover, our daughter, Dusty and our two nieces, Patricia Shuster and Melissa Moye. Rick was a grandfather to John Cover, Aaron Rainwater, Kevin Magee, Veronica Magee and Lilybet Carter-Cover. Rick was an uncle to Catherine Taylor and David Taylor, Savannah Hickman, Emma Lee Wright, Isaiah Wright, Daniel Connor, Aaron Schuemaker, Jacob Cline, Jennifer Wright, Alex Shuster, Lindsay Shuster, Alexis Thibodeaux, Lauren Shuster, Kylie Shuster, John Allen Sudduth, Austin Sudduth, Spencer Sudduth, Mackenzie Connor and Maddox Connor, Jack Frazer Jr. and Jacquelyn Frazer, Theodore Cover Jr., Andrew Cover and Mark Cover, Jaime Ann Fraser, James Fraser Jr., Ryan Moore and Alicia Moore. Rick was the beloved son of Joanne and Bill Bartell and the beloved son-in-law to Jerry and Shirley Shuster. Rick was a brother to James Frazer and Jack Frazer, Sandy Cover and Theodore Cover Sr., Brenda Gregory and Linda Moore, Anna Smith, Christina Cline, Jere Shuster, Michael Shuster and Teresa Sudduth. Rick was a brother-in-law to Craig Smith, Doug Cline, Jennifer Shuster, Kari Shuster, John Sudduth, Russel Moore and Jaime Frazer. Rick had a big family that loves him and will miss him more with each passing moment.
