William Brown Obituary

William Joseph Brown PORTSMOUTH - William Joseph "Buddy" Brown also known as "Barnacle Bud" of the 100 block of Constitution Ave., passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010. He suffered a short bout with lung and spine cancer. He was predeceased by his father, William T. Brown (managing editor of the Portsmouth Star and author of the column the "Old Grouch") and his mother, Elizabeth Culpepper Brown. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tiffany Brown and his sons, Michael Casey Brown, Stephen York; his sister, Anne Brown Kenney; and loving daughter-in-law, Crystal Brown; two grandchildren, Ryan York and Alexis O'Neil Brown. She misses her Poppa but knows he has gone to heaven. He was a retired top trouble shooter mechanic and head of security for Craftwork Sound. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries. He loved to garden and was known throughout for his wonderful tomatoes and collards, which he shared with everyone. He was an avid fisherman and crabber. He had a passion for cooking and grilling and made the best barbeque anywhere. He was raised on Scotts Creek, where he learned to fish, swim and row. A member of his family has been part of Scotts Creek since the early 1600s when they purchased land from the King of England with tobacco. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to help all. He loved animals and has left behind two beautiful boxers, Katie and Buster, who are grieving his loss. He was a student of life and a great teacher - he loved history and all kinds of music. He will be gravely missed, our lives will never be the same without him. Heartland Hospice was with us during his last six weeks and we could not have asked for anything better, kinder, and more loving than they provided. Feel free to make donations to Heartland Hospice or the NRA. A celebration of his life will be held in Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, London Boulevard, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2. Dear Tiffany, It has been so long since I have seen you or Buddy. I lost track of a lot of people when I left Shoney's and moved from Churchland.
Buddy was a great guy, always a friend to every one.
My son, Michael, passed away in 1996 from cancer. I made a slide show of his life. One of the pictures was of you and Buddy with Doug and Michael at Busch Gardens. I am going to send you a copy of it.
I pray that you are comforted by wonderful memories. Would love to hear from you.
