Irene Marushia Obituary

Irene Garrity Marushia ROCKY MOUNT - Irene Garrity Marushia, 76, loving widow of Paul B. Marushia (who died in 2001), went to her eternal rest Nov. 6, 2010. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Thomas E. and Mary Donnelly Garrity, and her brother, Thomas G. Garrity. She is survived by her sisters, Ethel Lynch of Syosset, N.Y., Dorothy Young of Mount Joy, Pa., and Marjorie Deacon of Bethlehem, Ga.; and her children, Michael T. Marushia Sr. of Virginia Beach, Paula Marushia Raynard of Rocky Mount, N.C., Joseph L. Marushia and Jonathan R. Marushia, both of Portsmouth, their spouses, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Irene was a 1952 graduate of Freeport (N.Y.) High School, and was married to Paul June 26, 1953. Having relocated from New York to Portsmouth in 1967, she was a longtime member of the Church of St. Therese, where she served as a church secretary, member of the choir, and was very active in other church activities until she relocated to Rocky Mount, N.C., in 2009. She is loved and missed by many. A memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, today, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Catholic Family Services in her remembrance. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount. You may share your memories and send condolences to the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family. Mom was a beautiful lady. She was always there to help in anyway she could. I have missed seeing her for the past year. Mom will always hold that special place in your heart. Look up to the stars every night and know she is watching over each and everyone of her children and family.
