Irene Mousouris Obituary

Irene D. Mousouris NORFOLK - Irene D. Mousouris, 93, peacefully joined our Heavenly Father surrounded by her devoted family Nov. 14, 2010. She was born in Karia, Kefalonia, to the late Hercules and Theodora Kapogiannatou Sept. 17, 1916. Married to Denis M. Mousouris (deceased), she moved to Norfolk in 1949, where they raised their family. In November of 1954, she became a proud American citizen, while maintaining her Greek roots as a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Kefalos and Ithakecian Society. Irene will always be remembered as a devoted wife, kind-hearted mother, and loving grandmother, sister and aunt, who lived for her family. Her greatest joy was to care for and entertain her family and friends. A selfless role model, she was deeply loved by everyone. She is survived by her three children, Patricia Meliagros and husband Dennis, Mark Mousouris and wife Patricia and Mary Girevendulis and husband Dr. Alexander. Her loving grandchildren are, Katie, Christina and Pete Meliagros, Andrea and Denise Mousouris. Her pet Maltese and constant companion, Daisey, brought her much joy. Irene has five brothers, Denis Kapos and wife Anthoula; Pete Kapos and wife Helen of Virginia Beach; Spiro Kapogiannatos and wife Electra (deceased) of Athens, Greece; Bob Kapos (deceased) and his wife Mary, of Memphis, Tenn.; Gerasimos Kapogiannatos (deceased) and his wife Andriana (deceased) of Patra, Greece. Irene's loving nieces and nephews include, Thalia Psikogios (deceased), Terrie Jurichko, Antigone Polite, Evangelia Anifantis, Hercules Kapos, George Kapos, Theodora Alekos, Julia Kapos, Theodora Papanagiotou, John, Petro and Hercules Kapogiannatos. The funeral will be held in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. Father Ambrose Bitsiades-Bowers and Father Constantine Rogakos officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. There will be a Trisagion service held Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m. in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com. Memorial donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk, the church she loved attending. Irene Mousouris will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May her loving memory be eternal.

Maro and I want to add our condolences for your loss. Losing a parent is painful. We both know personally how deeply it affects you, and hope that the many memories of all the good times helps balance the grief. May her memory be eternal.
