Naomi Bass Obituary

Naomi F. Bass VIRGINIA BEACH - Naomi Legum Feldman Bass, wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, cousin and dearest friend, in her 85 brief years she was everything to us. Family was always first, her gentle heart, inner strength, her keen intelligence, her wisdom, her abiding love, and her deep faith in G-D have guided and nurtured us throughout our lives. Her history is a family legend. Her mother, Lena Cohen Legum, a refugee from Europe, married in the USA and eventually settled in Berkley. Her father, Benjamin Legum, died in his thirties of cancer. Her brothers, Irvin (Echie) and Leonard (Juicy) and sister, Ruth always looked out for her. A good student, she finished high school and some college before marrying I. Morton Feldman. They made a loving home for Howard, Brian and Robin until Dad's unexpected death at age 43. Mom raised us by herself, while working, and made life as normal as she could. Our extended family was very close as well and Morton's sister, Helen, her husband, Milton and two children, Joan and Philip were very much in our day-to-day lives. When Helen died too, at 42, Mom and Milton after a time fell in love and eventually married. Milton became "Pop" and our family an ever stronger and closer one. Our life with Mom and Pop was memorable for our closeness, our times at the restaurant, our trips in Nags Head, and for celebrating family. Our religion was a constant presence in our lives. Life was not easy for mom with the untimely loss of son, Philip, brother, Leonard, brother Irvin, sister, Ruth, brother- in-law, Morris, niece, Barbara (who meant the world to her), "Pop", and her granddaughter, Helen Mardee (a light in her life), and Duchess her beloved Yorkie. Moms own bouts with cancer over the last 22 years of her life were a constant presence but did not control her life. Through it all, she was a rock, and our always anchor in unexpectedly shifting sand. She always thought of others first and was ever involved in our lives in a most appreciated way. She has become our greatest example in addition to our greatest friend. She is irreplaceable in our hearts, our minds, our lives, and we thank G-D every day for her presence in our lives. Our extraordinary Mom/Nana will be forever remembered in our hearts. We will miss her so, as the grandkids say, "Nana is AMAZING!" She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Joan Baydush, husband Jerry, grandson Alan Baydush wife Lori; and great-grandsons, Aidan Baydush and Alex Kehayas, son of Helen Baydush Kehayas of blessed memory; her granddaughter Lexie Feldman, son, Dr. Howard Feldman, and his partner Maria Winn and son Robin Winn; her son, Brian Feldman, wife Terri and grandchildren Philip Michael, Max, and Erin; her daughter, Robin Kyle, husband Rickie, grandsons, Philip Mason and Lance Kyle. She also leaves to cherish her memory one sister-in-law, Bea Legum and family; her nephews, Joe Bass, Benn and Jackie Richels and family, and Richard and Claire Richels and family. Also special to her are her dear friends, Dorothy Legum, Mary and Glen Nichols and the entire Fiorella family and her many dear family and friends who remain forever in her heart. We would like to thank Dr. Louis Carideo, his covering physicians and specialists, Dr. James Stark, oncologist, and Dr. Biral Amin, radiation oncologist, for their never ending patience, compassion, and care; the staff of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center for their excellence, Allstar Home Health especially, Claire and Mandy and Guardian Health Care, especially, Trish, Vanessa, Shawn, and Melissa for their extraordinary care, and Julie and Amy from Odyssey for their special touch. We would also like to thank Rabbi Mandelberg and Lori Hasty for their immeasurable help. Finally, a most special thanks to Shirl, Pam, and Erica from Dr. Feldman's office for their ever present care, and concern, and love, and to all those who sent prayers, cards, and thoughtfulness our way during this difficult time. Memorial donations may be made to Team Naomi Bass, a Relay For Life Team that will be walking at Virginia Tech April 22, 2011 to benefit the American Cancer Society, to Beth Shalom Home, or the charity of your choice. A graveside funeral service will be held at B'Nai Israel Cemetery on Cromwell Road in Norfolk at 1 p.m., today, Nov. 15, by Rabbi Rosalin Mandelberg and Cantor Wally Schachet- Briskin. The family will partake of the shiva meal immediately after the funeral at 712 Magnum Road Chesapeake, VA 23322 and will remain there until 5 p.m. H.D.
