Norma Thomas Obituary

Norma L. Thomas VIRGINIA BEACH - Norma Louise Thomas, 89, passed away Nov. 10, 2010 with family by her side. Norma never stopped loving. She spread joy and affection to everyone she met and selflessly devoted her time and energy to her family, church and community. Norma was a true disciple of God - her faith was unwavering and inspiring. Norma was an active volunteer in tutoring programs, hospice care, Meals on Wheels, and school organizations across Hampton Roads. Norma was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by her parents, Elsie and Edward Kinchley Sr., and her brother, Edward Kinchley Jr. Norma is survived by her brother, Jack Kinchley; four children, Marjorie Nonaka, Robert Schabel, Janet Ladd, David Schabel; four grandchildren, David Schabel Jr., Jennifer Whitehurst, John Partch, Michael Nonaka; great-grandchildren, Shannon Whitehurst, Aaron Schabel, Bryan Schabel; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Virginia Beach Healthcare and Odyssey Hospice for their care during the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Odyssey Hospice Care, 6363 Center Drive, Building No. 6, Suite 201, Norfolk, VA 23502, (757) 461-0600. A memorial service for Norma is scheduled for 2 p.m., Dec. 11, at Providence Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach.
