James Turner Obituary

James F. Turner SMITHFIELD - James Frederick "Fred" Turner, 86, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at Sentara Obici Memorial Hospital. Fred was born in Isle of Wight County to the late James and Martha Turner. He was a member of Smithfield Baptist church and a member of the Men's Baraca Class. Fred was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Smithfield Hunt Club. Fred also served our country in the Navy during World War II. Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Virginia Turner; his sons, Steve W. Turner and wife Gail of Antioch, Tenn., Gary J. Turner and wife Donna of Springfield, Va.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. in Moore Swamp Baptist church Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Rhoton officiating. The family request memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Steve, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of you Dad this weekend. Sounds like he was a good man. I know you will miss him. I'll always remember your kindness when by dad passed away back in 1994 and you made the drive all the way to Dresden to pay your respects. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
