Jane Brattain Obituary

Harriet J. Brattain VIRGINIA BEACH - Harriet Jane Brattain, 59, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010. Born in Greensboro, S.C., she had been a longtime member and elder of Community Presbyterian Church of Hampton. Jane Brattain was a planner for military facilities for more than 30 years. She worked at Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Atlantic, and Headquarters, United States Marine Corps. Upon retirement from federal service, she was employed in the private sector for both URS and AECOM working in global shore infrastructure planning, military construction projects, and other facility based planning. Jane was a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, the American Planning Association (Past President of the Federal Planning Division), the American Institute of Certified Planners, and the Federal Executives Association. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and many other charitable and non-profit organizations. She is survived by many cousins and their families. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23669 by the Rev. Ernest L. Gardner III and the Rev. Arthur Jensen, with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Community Presbyterian Church, 400 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, VA 23669.

13 years you've been gone Jane. I think of you often, of our work together, the laughter, shared successes, coffee trips, briefings...What I appreciated most was my ability to confide in you. Thanks for that! God took you too early, but it was His Call. We all miss you!
