Jean Blanchard Obituary

Jean B. Blanchard HOBBSVILLE - Jean Baines Blanchard, 80, of the 1800 block of NC 37 S., died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. Mrs. Blanchard was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late John David and Mamie Story Baines. A graduate of Gatesville High School, she worked in the FBI building in Washington, D.C., returned to Gates County and married. Later, she worked as the secretary at the Gates County High School and then spent most of her life as a homemaker. A member of Zion United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, she also enjoyed membership in the Gatesville Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Nathan "Billy" Blanchard; sisters, Gladys, Lorene and Mable; and brothers, Edgar, Dick, Pete and Bill. Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Jean Bergevin and husband Dr. Michael A. Bergevin of Smithfield, Va., and Billie Lynn Poole and husband Mark C. Poole of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Nathan and Kimberly Cole, Richard Poole and Kristin Lane and husband Brooks; and a great-grandson, Carter Lane. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tracy Clayton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad, 016 US Hwy. 158 E., Gatesville, NC 27938. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
