John Wise Obituary

John R. Wise Sr. PORTSMOUTH - John R. "Bob" Wise Sr., 80, of the 3500 block of Carter Road, died Dec. 26, 2010, in his home. Bob was born in Athens, Ohio, and was the son of the late John and Nell Wise. He was a retired personnel coordinator for Portsmouth Public Schools with 30 years of service and a graduate of Bridgewater College and Virginia Commonwealth University. Bob was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, volunteered at Safety Town in Portsmouth for 15 years, and served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Iris W. Wise; two daughters, Carol W. Loeb and husband Richard of Norfolk, and Kimberly S. Smith and husband Tony of Corapeake, N.C.; two sons, John R. Wise and wife Katherine of Portsmouth, and Michael W. Wise and wife Lindsay of Norfolk; and nine grandchildren, Kelly, Heather, Matthew, Douglas, Millicent, Spencer, Amy, Cody and Ethan. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, by the Rev. George B. Neas. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 6363 Center Drive, Building 6, Suite 201, Norfolk, VA 23502 or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
