David Rabenstein Obituary

David E. "Bud" Rabenstein, Sr.
of East Berkshire, N.Y.
David E. "Bud" Rabenstein, Sr., 76, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at his home in the presence of his loving family. Born on April 6, 1931 in Redlands, Calif., he was a son of the late August and Emma (Winship) Rabenstein. Bud, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Barbara (Card) Rabenstein; his loving children, David Rabinstein, Jr., Carol (Paul) Olcott; his grandchildren, Jessica and Roy Olcott, all of Berkshire; his sister, Anne (Henry) Koval, So. Holland, Ill.; nieces, Julie (Andy) Applebee, Jacksonville, Ill., Karen Jurgenson, New Lenox, Ill.; and many other relatives and friends. Bud graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1948 where he was Salutatorian of his class. On July 1, 1955 he married the love of his life, Barbara. Bud was a devoted member of East Berkshire United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a lay leader. In addition, he served on the board of Arrowhead Ministries. As a young man he assisted his father in the operation of the family dairy, saw-mill and the sale of maple syrup. His son, David, continues the family dairy with the help of other family members. He was a longtime member of NEDCO Milk Co-Op, where he served as secretary for many years. Bud also had a natural ability to repair any type of farm machinery. He was a dedicated family man, good friend and neighbor to many and will be greatly missed by all.
Friends may call on Monday, March 17, 2008, from 11-1 p.m. at the East Berkshire United Methodist Church. A celebration of Bud's life will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Viki S. Andrews and Rev. James T. Willard officiating. Bud's family would like to thank Lourdes Hospice, especially Linda, Deb, Kelly, and Sister Joanna Monticello for their kind and compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Berkshire United Methodist Church, American Heart Association, or the Arthritis Foundation Central N.Y. Chapter, c/o P.O. Box 575, Newark Valley, N.Y. 13811, in loving memory of David E. Rabenstein Sr. Caring assistance is being provided by the Cooley family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, N.Y.

While living in the Berkshire area, Bud and Barbara were always a friendly and helpful friend to me and my family. Bud will be missed not only by his family, but the Berkshire and East Berkshire community.

My sincere condolences to all.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you. May you find peace knowing that Uncle Bud is secure in the arms of our lord. Your faith provides you with peace and will help you cope with your longing. Continue to trust in our lord and don't hesitate to turn to your family and friends. They're a great source of help and comfort in your time of need.

Love to you all,

I started working for Bud on his farm when I was eleven years old, now at 32 I look back and thank him for all that he has taught me. I don't think that there was a better place for a kid to learn about the value a hard work while also learning important morale values. This world would be a better place for young kids if there were more men like Bud to teach about hard work and the pride that gives you. His family values will always be with me. The one thing that I regret is that I didn't let him know what an impact he made in my life. He will be greatly missed. God Bless.

Aunt Barb, Carol, and David,

My prayers are with you all at this time. Uncle Bud is in a far more better place and I am sure He and Uncle Kenny are "catching up" on things.
