Monia Stanton Obituary

Monia B. Stanton
of Connecticut
formerly of Binghamton
Monia B. Stanton passed away at the age of 94 on March 21st in Connecticut. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Stanton-Hirst, her son-in-law, Jonathan, and her only grandchild, Joy-Jean, Norfolk, Conn. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the US, Canada and Europe. Mrs. Stanton was born in Johnstown, Pa. and grew up in Binghamton, N.Y. She was graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital's School of Nursing in 1935. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was part of their medical team sent to the crash site of the Hindenburg in 1937. During the Second World War she looked after burn casualties from Merchant Marine ships attacked and destroyed during the Battle of the Atlantic. She married the late John F. Stanton in 1945 and they made their home in Ohio. She was active in the garden club and many church and PTA activities. She moved back East in 1985 to be with her daughter's family.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 at Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, 360 Clinton St., Binghamton. Rev. Peter Donish will celebrate the Divine Liturgy. Burial will be in Holy Spirit Cemetery, Kattelville. The family will receive friends at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home, Inc., 71 Main St., Binghamton, from 9 until 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Holy Spirit Byzantine Rite Catholic Church.
