George Macinski Obituary

George Macinski
of Binghamton and Bradenton, Fla.
George Macinski, 83, of Binghamton and Bradenton, Fla., passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca Thursday, July 18, 2008. He was born May 2, 1925 in Johnson City to the late Charles and Anna Macinski. George grew up in Johnson City, N.Y., and proudly enlisted in the United States Marines. He served his country well, participating in actions in Tarawa and other South Pacific islands. After his time in the service George earned his high school diploma from Binghamton North, and then went to work for NYSEG as a lineman in Binghamton where he worked for many years until his retirement in 1987. George was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Binghamton. He was a member of the American Legion in Binghamton and Florida, belonged to the Elks Club in Florida, and also belonged to the Marine Corps League. George was instrumental in the start up and operations of Standing Stone Vineyards on Seneca Lake, and he remained a constant booster and enthusiast. In his spare time George enjoyed golfing, fishing, walking, and reading history. Surviving George is his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; a son, Tom Macinski and daughter-in-law, Martha Macinski, Hector, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Sarah (Adam) Sperry, Albany; and his great-granddaughter, Dorothy Sperry, also of Albany. We will all miss George's caring presence in our lives.
