Virginia Quatrini Obituary

Virginia Quatrini
of Sayre
Virginia Quatrini, 89, loving wife, mother and friend, and longtime Sayre resident, passed away on August 17, 2008. She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany. Virginia was born in Endicott, New York on January 29, 1919, the fifth child of Nicola and Rosa Belziti DiTota. She spent her childhood in Owego, N.Y., where her parents owned and operated an Italian restaurant, "The Venetian Garden" and a grocery store. In September 1937, she married Joseph T. Quatrini of Sayre, and shortly thereafter moved to Milltown where they raised their family. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always brought a smile to her face. Over the years she crocheted miles of tablecloths, afghans, stuffed toys and Christmas ornaments which she bestowed as gifts to family and friends. Autumn in the Quatrini house revolved around harvesting the bounty of her large vegetable garden and canning, freezing and otherwise preserving everything possible to enjoy over the winter. She proudly shared these with visitors. Virginia and her husband, Joe, were hosts to frequent family gatherings at their hone. In her later years she became an avid Yankees fan. She and her husband were longtime member of the Herbert S. Maddy Corral and the Triple R Riding Club and she enjoyed cooking and baking for all whenever the group gathered for meetings. Virginia sold Vanda Cosmetics and beauty products for several years and made many friends along the way. She also found time to serve as a crossing guard on her corner in Milltown, guiding the elementary school children on their way to school. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Roseann in 1957; her husband of 54 years, Joe, in 1992; her granddaughter, Sheila Catlin, in 1997; her parents and her four siblings, Mike DiTota, Josephine Longo, Nancy Longo, and Lena Deacon. She is survived by her daughter, Angie Van Ness and her husband, Dick, Henrietta, N.Y.; her son, Lou Quatrini and his wife, Jackie, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; her daughter, Nancy Herrera and her husband, Ben, Henrietta, N.Y.; her son, Joe Quatrini and his wife, Susan, Sayre, Pa.; and her son, Phillip and his wife, Alison, McLean, Va. She was known as "Naunie" to her eight grandchildren who survive her, Roseann Bruner and husband, Tim, Penfield, N.Y., Bill Van Ness and Catherine Swan, Scottsville, N.Y., Brian Herrera and his wife, Donna, Henrietta, N.Y., Ben Herrera, Falls Church, Va., Joe Quatrini and his wife, Michele, Litchfield, Pa., Sarah Quatrini, Sayre, Pa., "P.J." She was blessed to also have eight great-grandchildren who survive her, Nick Bruner, Dan and Grace Anne Van Ness, Alex Herrera, Mikey and Suzanne Catlin, Lucas Quatrini and Leah Quatrini.
