Robert Smith Obituary
of Greene
Robert F. Smith, 73, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at James G. Johnston Nursing Home, Johnson City. He was predeceased by his parents, Franklin and Edith Smith. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Delores; children, Debra and Joseph Eggleston, Robert and Ann Smith, Patricia and James Wade, Sandra and James Deabler, Ann and Bruce Eggleston, Richard and Ruth Smith, Kelly and James Meagley, Nicole and Greg Mills, Christine and Frank Lipari; grandchildren, Ben and Alisha, Shannon and John, Stephen, Brendan, Jordan, Robert and Jen, Katie and Joey, William and Ashley, Nate, Crystal, David, Stacy, Stephanie, Brian, Brent and Laurie, James, Jill and Nate, Jamie and Lance, James, Jennifer, Matthew, Justin, Thomas, Jeremy and Shawn, Angela, Timothy and Amy, Jessica, Erin, Morgan, Darien, Levi, Adrienne, Alexandra, Brianna, Megan, Dominic; great-grandchildren, Molly, Quin, Korah, Bailey, Gabriel, Taylor, Brayden, MacKenzie, Jeremy, Kendall, Natalee, Blake; two sisters, Betty Roser and Barbara Petro; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marshall and Kathleen Smith; two sisters-in-law, Sally Starkweather and Kathleen Connolly; several nieces and nephews. Bob worked at Raymond Corporation in Greene for over twenty years and he also worked in sales at the Penny Saver. He was an honorary member of the Greene Fire Department. Bob was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the St. Lawrence River. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday at Zion Episcopal Church, Greene. The Very Rev. Ralph E. Osborne Rector will officiate. Friends of the family may call Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greene Fire Dept. or Emergency Squad 6, North Canal Street, Greene, N.Y. 13778; or the American Cancer Society; or the Alzheimer's Association, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790. Arrangements under the direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, N.Y. 13778.

It has been my privilege to have known and worked with Bob at the Town & Country pennysaver in Marathon. He was a wonderful man who spoke highly of his family. Many of Bob's customers would still ask about him and always had a kind word to say about him. He will be deeply missed. Our prayers go out to his family.

i remember when we were all little and grandpa use to scare us by taking his teeth out..hahaha he was so rotten..i will miss grandpa, i wish i could have been closer and been able to see him more. but now i know he is in a better place and he will be able to be with all of us always. love jamie

I first met Bob when he worked for Lakeside Pennysaver in the Greene office. He was always pleasant to work with, and we missed him greatly when he retired. I am sorry to hear of his passing, and am thankful to have known such a good man.
