Edmund Lubniewski
of West Corners
Edmund Lubniewski, 84, passed away at his home in West Corners, N.Y., on September 23, 2008. He was born in Mikulino, Poland, to the late Bronislaw and Anna (Dubaniewicz) Lubniewski. He was married for 55 years to Marjorie Lubniewski, who passed away unexpectedly earlier the same day. He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Stephen (Jacqueline), Davidsonville, Md., Edmund (Joanne), Salisbury, Md., and John (Regina), Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Katherine, Jocelyn, Stephanie, Matthew, Megan, Michael and Mark; sister, Helena Onoszko (Czeslaw), Belarus; and many nieces and nephews. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Polish Forces under French Command and with the Polish Second Corps. of the British Eighth Army. Discharged from the armed service in England, he entered the work force, working for John Laing & Son and Finchley Glassworks. He emigrated to the United States in 1950, where he joined his uncle and cousins in Binghamton, N.Y. He worked for Endicott-Johnson for several years, enjoying his work and life to the fullest, and at Cornell University as a computer programmer. He worked for Broome County Government until retirement, serving as Director of Data Processing. He is a graduate of Broome Community College and Binghamton University. He volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 202 for many years and was active in West Corners Little League. He was a member of PAVA, Post 46, Binghamton, serving in many capacities; member of the Kopernik Cultural Society of Broome County; board member of the Polish Community Center; and a member of Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy; FASST Society and others. He was a member of St. Casimir's Church, Endicott, for over 50 years. He liked to travel and enjoyed the family lake cottage in the Pennsylvania Mountains where he spent many happy retirement years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Matthew S. Wieczorek on Friday, September 26, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, Endicott. Entombment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Binghamton, New York 13905. Arrangements and supervision by:
