Ellen and I were very sad to hear of your mother's passing. We go back to when our middle daughter, Diane was in the Golden Bears Marching Band with Elise. She and I worked together on the Golen Circle of Bands and I enjoyed having such of wonderful person on the committee. She was wonderful with both the kids and parents. She would always do what needed to be done.

To the family of Mrs. Henricks:
I am so sorry for your loss. I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Henricks for, although I hadn't seen her for a few years now, I have many fond memories of her and the times that she spent helping me find new and exciting books at the GFJ Memorial Library. When I was in elementary school I aspired to be just like Matilda and read every book in the children's section of the library, and Mrs. Henricks helped me out quite a lot in the pursuit of this goal. She was always there, sitting at her desk right when you walked in, with a smile a warmth about her that just made you gravitate her way even if you really didn't need any help locating anything. Mrs. Henricks impacted my life and the lives of countless other children who walked into the library on any given day. I am so grateful that Mrs. Henricks was a part of my life.

To Eleanor's daughters:
My children and I were so sad to hear of your mom's passing. All three of them attended her story hours, during which she inspired their love of books, and we spent many hours during their pre-school years in the children's room of the library. Your mom spoke often of her daughters, and was obviously very proud of you. She was particularly fond of my daughter, who I named Eleanor.
Sincerely,
Brenda Meckley

Hi Girls,
I learned of your mom's passing this morning at 7:30 Mass. I so wish I had known earlier so I could have paid my respects and seen you all. It's been years. I'm sorry for your loss. It brings a smile to my face when I reflect back on your teenage years and your mom's great effort to make sure music was part of your lives. Peace and love to you all,...(Is anyone still playing their clarinet?)

When I brought my girls to our weekly library visit they'd rush to the children's room as soon as I'd open the main entrance door. One wanted to beat the other to say a first "hello" to Eleanor. She'd greet us all with the biggest smile as she asked each girl how they week was going and what was keeping them busy after school. For many years my kids relied on Eleanor to pick out the best books for each of them. And she did - every time.
We think of her often and are so glad to have had her touch our lives. I am sure she's already running story hour in heaven.

Elise,
I happened to be in Dallas,Texas playing grandmother for a week for my daughter, Amy (your old friend from high school) when the death notice appeared. We were both so saddened. I always enjoyed her cantor work at OLS. We shared many thoughts over the years with our volunteer work at OLS. She was always a role model to persevere and keep smiling. Prayers and sympathy to her family left behind. Joan and Amelia Eisch

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear mother. I met her a few years back when I joined a bunco group she was in. What a loving, kind, and giving person. We had such good times and many laughs. I feel so bad she didn't enjoy more years of her retirement. I moved to North Carolina last July so I was unable to attend her funeral. She will be missed by many as she touched many lives in her lifetime. My deepest sympathy to all of you girls and your families. Eleanor had a beautiful singing voice and I'm sure the angels of heaven welcome her.
God be with you.

Countless patrons have come into The Eleanor Henricks Children's Room expressing their sadness these past few days. Her imprint is all over this room and when it is really quiet, I still hear her laughter. I hope patrons continue to keep her memory alive. I'd like to believe Eleanor is performing some Heavenly Storytimes filling paradise with more song and joy...not to mention her planning and enthusiasm for "The Paradise Poetry Recitation..........."
God Bless You Eleanor.

Eleanor was a bright light on this earth, and no doubt she will continuing shinning brightly in the night's sky looking down on us all. I had the pleasure and honor of knowing your Mom through the library. She enthusiastically helped me pick out children's books with music themes for my Arts in Ed Residencies, and always gave me such support as an artist. The last time I saw her was in June, at the Cider Mill, happy talk in between acts. I will miss seeing her beautiful smiling face, but I trust that her time to be in the next world had come, and her incredible smile will continue always. My heartfelt condolences to Eleanor's daughters and families.

Eleanor was a wonderful woman and no matter what life handed her, she made lemonade. We shared a love of being Irish, singing, laughing and our children and grandchildren. I will miss her but she is now singing with the angels in heaven with my mom.

Eleanor was our neighbor for many years. Warm, caring and compassionate were just a few of her many gifts. She was the 1st to plant flowers in the spring and we were thankful to share in her tomato garden bounty. We will always be thankful for having known Eleanor and express our sincere sympathy to her family.

My thoughts and prayers are with Eleanor's family at this difficult time...I was blessed to have our paths cross at chorus....For many years we stood next to each other in the front row...What fun we had....I remember being coached and the coaches always saying, smile like Eleanor...her smile was especially bright when she talked of her daughters and grandchildren...One night she came to my home for a chorus meeting..the four kids next door saw her come, next morning their mom told me how excited they were to see Mrs Henricks from the library at my home, she really had "celebrity status" with the children...She put footprints on the hearts of all that passed through the library door...

The children and I loved Eleanor. She had a special gift for making each person feel special and important. Every time we went to the library she would greet us with a smile, ask us how we were doing and help us find the books we needed even when we didn't know what we needed! What was especially unusual was that we don't live in Endicott and only visited that library every 6 or 7 weeks, but still she treated us like old friends--as though she remembered everything about us. She will be missed.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and may your perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

I was so saddened to hear of your mother's passing. I knew her when I was a young child going to story hour at the Endicott Library. I vividly remember her smile and warm spirit. She always remembered my name and had a way of making everyone feel special. It was the memories that she created for me at story hour that now inspires me to bring my own daughter to story hour. She has given generations of children a love of reading that is unending. My deepest sympathies.

Eleanor Henricks was my very own librarian from the time I was old enough to hold a book! I vividly remember my weekly trips to the Endicott Library to max out my personal library card with only seven books! What a beautiful person Eleanor was! God bless her family and the generations of children who knew and loved her!

To the Family
I met Eleanor when I first began working at the Broome Co. Public Library. She was a very special person who was hard working, energetic, enthusiastic, intelligent, talented, and had a genuine love for children and literature. She touched the lives of many people and will be sorely missed.

I owe a great debt of thanks to Eleanor who was a role model to me as I worked my way through library school. Today at work (at my new library job) I got sad thinking about the wealth of knowledge we have lost in Eleanor. Later I passed a student in the hallway and called her by name. I realized that my commitment to learning the names of my 300+ students came from Eleanor. She made an impressive effort to remember children's names and greeted us all as individuals...so perhaps some of her legacy will carry on after all.

Please accept my sympathy on the death of your mother. I didn't know her really well (played tennis with her a number of times) but I did admire her spirit and talents very much. She loved tennis and loved competing. She was missed this summer when she could no longer play and she will be missed in the future, not only by her tennis friends but by many others as well.

Eleanor was such a great lady! She helped to teach my daughters the love of reading. They still talk about the puppets, guitar, and books that she read to them during storytime (The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything - I can still hear her reading that!) My son, who never got to attend her storytime, was able to meet her at her retirement party. She always knew us by name and greeted us with that great smile of hers. She will be missed.

Ladies,
The last time I spoke with your mom in the hospital, her face was radiant with joy. I sensed in her wings as of angels, and I have no doubt she is singing with angelic choirs in sweet, high harmony at this moment. All her life, Eleanor was an encourager and a joy-giver. Your mom was the very best librarian in this valley, and we all looked up to her. She both trained and inspired generations of children's librarians and storytellers. How grateful I am for her untiring help with the Annual Countywide Children's Poetry Recitation! We are bereft at the loss of our friend and mentor. Our hearts go out to you also and pray the Lord will comfort you as you grieve. Thank you, Eleanor, for your smile, your songs, and your stories. We'll never forget you.

I am very sorry for you loss. Your mother was such a wonderful person. I can't even begin to think how many people she touched. She was trully a gifted person and shared her gift of reading with so many children. I have had the pleasure of having 3 of my children be in her storytime.
I remember her always talking about her grandchildren and how she would pack up bags of books to read when she visited them.
She will always be remembered. May you rest in peace Eleanor. We will read a special book for you tonight at bedtime, thinking of you!
Thank you for giving my children one of the most important gifts of all, the love of books!

Dear Heather, Collette, and Elise,
We are deeply saddened by your mother's passing; she left us too early. Over the past few years (as an adult), I feel like I really grew to know your mom; for that I am lucky. Even better, my daughter Ellie met her recently. We loved hearing stories of her latest adventures...she always had an interesting story to share. I will always admire your mom for her positive, kind spirit. She was an absolute delight to talk to and spend time with. We will miss your mother greatly and extend our deepest sympathies to you. Be proud...We are all better people having known your mom.

If you ever, ever see a whale, don't ever, ever, ever touch its tale. . . . My children (now in their 30's) will never forget story hour with Mrs. Henricks. My life has been enriched by knowing Eleanor. When I joined Carousel Harmony chorus ten years ago, her embrace kept me coming back until I had established my place on the risers, and 'Sweet Adelines' had tattooed itself onto my heart. I will always think of her when I sing, or hear, that anthem. May hope and grace sustain all her beloved and bereaved ones.
