Monica G. Treis Sharp, 63 of Apalachin, New York and formerly of Tribes Hill, New York passed away Friday morning, September 26, 2008, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, New York. Born in Amsterdam, New York on October 7, 1944, she was a daughter of the late John N. Treis and Monica G. Treis. Monica was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School. She was also a graduate of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing both in Amsterdam. Monica was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam and most recently was employed as a clerical worker for New York State Employee and Local Retirement System – Office of Comptroller in Albany, New York retiring in 2001. Monica was a former parishioner and communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, New York and presently of St. Margaret Mary Church in Apalachin. Her husband, William H. Sharp to whom she married on June 24, 1972, passed away on August 4, 1982. Her mother, Monica G. Treis, Owego, New York, survives Monica; also surviving are one son, David J. (Lisa) Sharp, one sister, Mary "Pat" Treis and one grandson, William Sharp all of Apalachin, New York. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street Amsterdam, followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 111 Third Avenue, Tribes Hill, New York. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, New York. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 at the mortuary.
