Robert L. "Bob" Emmick
of Kirkwood
Robert L. Emmick, 65, of Kirkwood, died on Monday, October 6, 2008, at his home. He was predeceased by his mother, Jessie Miller. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother to his family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean Emmick, Kirkwood; children, Sheri Emmick Bentley and Mark Kohler, Alexandria, Va., Carol Boothe, Kirkwood, Amy and Kevin Whitty, Poughkeepsie, and Joseph and Michele Emmick, Kirkwood; also five granddaughters, Hanna, Emily, Vanessa, Erica and Grace; sister and brother-in-law, Jenni and Laury Carr, Tupper Lake; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Abbey. A former volunteer fireman for Five Mile Point, Bob retired from Crowley Foods after 20 years of service. He loved woodworking, astronomy, fishing and gardening with his wife. A craftsman and a dreamer, Bob fully enjoyed his retirement with his wife and spending time with his family.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main Street, Johnson City. The Rev. Gary Sawyer will officiate. Burial will be in Chenango Valley Cemetery. The family will receive loved ones and friends on Friday at 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the Barber Memorial Home.

We could not beleive the news that day... We were in shock & denial. Bob had just retired...
I wrote a story 'bout the time you came out to the great northwest to visit the NW Emmicks... the golf game, getting locked in the park and having to get uncle Bud over the gate...hope you enjoy the flag. thanks Craig. You guys will always be in our hearts, prayers and thoughts...

Carol Jean,Amy,Sheri,Joe, Sorry to read about Bob. My prayers and thoughts are with all you. I lost my husband Tony on Sept. 8 , 2008 and I sure know what you are going thru. Jean and Family,
I was reading the paper this morning and I saw Bob's picture where it shouldn't be. I spent the entire day thinking of Bob and the many car rides he took me on. By the way he drove way to fast in those new cars behind and around all of those hills by your house :-) .
What I would like to share with you though, is the smile he had on his face when he talked about you, the kids and the grand-kids. He truly was a wonderful family man. He even showed me a huge truck parked in your driveway that was lifted with (military axles and hockeypucks as spacers ?) and told me about the neighborhood pet bear that visited you. Pictures and all.
I am very saddened by your loss. I will miss him. I will always remember his pride in his voice when ever he spoke of his family. He was truly a rich man.

Jeanie,Cheri,Carol,Amy and Joe,Our thoughts and prayers are with you. You all have lost a wonderful dad and husband I remember experiances when I was very young with Bob. He tought me tricks and skills with model car building. I remember when he met your mom when he would be on his way to visit her he was so excited and for all that time that excitment never faded. He was always the life of gatherings, and oh what a proud father of all of you. He was a lover of life,friends and family. Jean, Sheri, Carol, Amy and Joe,
I am very saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I have many great memories of him and his friendship. There was never a time when he wasn't ready and willing to drop everything to help "the girls" next door. We had so many good times and laughs. I loved being your neighbor for all those years.
I know your loss is a great one and deeply felt by many family members and friends. I also know he loved you all very much. (He always made sure to give us updates about his kids whenever we talked together. He was so proud of you all.)
Bob is one of the best guys I know - kind hearted, fun-loving, thoughtful, hardworking...and especially because he loved dogs -including our Sophie!

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Bob had such a joyful spirit about him and he never ceased to make me laugh. Just this past summer he was telling me how he refused to shave his beard just because you asked him to. =) We will be praying for you during this difficult time and know you are always in our thoughts.
