Walter P. Kozol
of Endwell
Walter P. Kozol, 85, of Endwell, died peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital, New York City, Friday, October 10, 2008. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Julia; his sister, Helen; and brothers, Eugene and Edward. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Louise (Ziemba) Kozol; devoted children, Mary Louise, New York, N.Y. and Peter, Melbourne, Fla.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Amelia Kozol, Josephine Ziemba and Stanley and Anne Ziemba; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and five God Children. Walter was a veteran of WWII, having served in the European Theater. He was a 1st Lieutenant Bombardier with the 8th Air Force, 95th Bomb Group. He survived 35 bombing missions over Germany, in a B17, Flying Fortress. His military awards included the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the European Battle Ribbon and two stars for air battles. Walter graduated from Fordham University and was a member of the Alumni Association, the Holy Name Society, the Athletic Club and was starting catcher for the varsity baseball team from 1946-1948. Walt was one of the founding partners of Clemente, Joseph and Kozol Insurance Brokerage Company. He was one of the original members of the Kopernik Cultural Society of Broome County, where he served as president for two terms. Walter was a loyal member of St. Casimir's Church and choir for 61 years. Our heartfelt thank you to Father Matthew Wieczorek, for his prayers, love and concern and Reverend Monsignor Thomas Leonard of Holy Trinity Church, NYC for his prayers and many visits to the hospitals. Much love to our dear sister-in-law, Eleanor Kozol, for taking good care of all of us. We extend our gratitude to the Hanry Kurkoski, Sr. and Jr. families, and to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Perry, for watching over our home. Last but not least, Walter's family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staffs of Columbia Presbyterian and St. Luke's Hospital, NYC. The care was remarkable. Heavenly Father be merciful to your faithful servant Walter. We were blessed with the best husband and father, and most important the finest example of a good human being. Grant him eternal peace.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Mass Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to a food pantry of one's choice.

Dearest Louise, Marylou and Peter:
There are no words to express my deepest sympathy and sadness on hearing of your loss. You knew how much I thought of Walt - He was someone that always made me laugh. I always admired and respected him. He will always be remembered in my prayers. I just know that God has a special place for him in heaven. I think of Mac and Walt discussing History together in Heaven.
