Kristen Comfort Obituary

Kristen Comfort
of Bradenton, Fla.
(formerly of Johnson City, N.Y.)
Our beloved sister and friend left us unexpectedly October 19th, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Kris is back in the loving arms of our parents, Roy and Marie Comfort, who predeceased her. Surviving Kris are her three sisters and one brother: Judy Comfort and daughters, Karen, Stacey, Melia, Veronica, and Rebecca; Michael Comfort (Andrea) and children, Anna and Adam; Karen Comfort (Donna) and daughter, Nicole; Erin Case (Scott) and son, Christian Comfort. Kris is also survived by her special aunt and uncle, Dora Mae and Al Ketchum; favorite Great Aunt Gladys Hennip; extended family, Ron, Jean, and Terry Davis; several great-nieces and nephews; best friend, Joe Emilio; lifelong friend, Patty Lake; and cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Kris graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor of Arts. She was a voracious reader, rarely seen without a book in her hand. Kris was proud of the positive impact she had on several inmates as a Broome County Corrections Officer. Prior to that she worked for several major airlines from which she enjoyed sharing her "Buddy Passes" with her family and friends, often on trips to the Caribbean. Kris was well-known for her uncanny intellect, her passion for NY Giants football and her wonderful sense of humor; always playing creative practical jokes and performing magic tricks for the kids. More than anything, Kris loved animals. She considered "Bo", "Gumby", and "Wormy" her children and was a very doting "parent". Although those of us left behind are broken-hearted, we are relieved that Kris no longer suffers the immeasurable pain she endured over the last few years. Sister, we love you and miss you already. May You Rest in Peace.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, November 2, at Barber's Memorial Home on 428 Main St., Johnson City. Calling hours are 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an animal rescue shelter such as: H.E.A.R.T. Inc., 139 Burts Rd., Kirkwood, N.Y. 13795 or another shelter of your choice.

Karen & family, Thankfully we have our memories! And we all know we have some great ones. Kris was a great person and a great friend. We are all better people for knowing her. You all have that great "dry" sense of humor. It's a gift. And that we will miss from Kris. I will think of, and no doubt laugh to myself about all the fond memories we all shared. Once again thank God for memories. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. love, Bunny and family

I am proud to say that I was a friend of Kris's in high school. I can not help but smile when I think of her and her antics. I still think of Kris whenever I see a clock at 11:11...she wore number 11 with pride!

Regretfully, I have not seen Kris in many years, and I am deeply saddened by her passing. My sincerest sympathy to her family and loved ones.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Kris. She was such a unique person and we really enjoyed her sense of humor. I am thankful for the times we got to visit each other down here in Florida. She shared some of her favorite reads with me and the next book I read will be one of her picks!

Dear Karen, Judy, Erin and Mike,

The friendships in our families started years ago with Judy and my brother Eddie. Our Mom's were always close; sharing receipes and a long time friendship.
I was fortunate to know Kris through the sports we played together as well as our families close ties.
Bless all of you as you heal from Kris' early earthly departure. She was a kind soul and a lot of fun to be around. Her memory lives on in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
She's safe now - in the comfort of God and Angels like her.
Bless you,
Nancy Kleinsmith

I thought of Kris just a few days ago, before I knew she had passed. Because Halloween was coming up, I remembered admiringly what a good trickster she was, what an intelligent sense of humor she had. I took the brunt of a few of her tricks which I remember fondly. I am grateful to have those and many other good memories of growing up with Kris throughout high school.

Kris's Family,
It was with great sadness to hear about Kris. Kris touched my life years ago with her humor and as you so perfectly described her "uncanny intellect". I had not seen Kris in many years but thought of her often and considered her a true friend. Kris and all of you are in my thoughts.
My deepest sympathy.

My mom sent out a picture of Kris from last Easter of her hamming it up with a little disguise. It was a great reflection of the practical joking side of her that is mentioned in this really well written reflection of her life.
