Dale Grassi Obituary

Dale Stephen Grassi
of Binghamton
Through our grief we continue to celebrate the life of Dale Grassi, 54. Loving brother, son, father, baby of the family, "Poopsie". Dale left us on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. He was predeceased by his father, Daniel R. Grassi Sr. in 1968. Dale leaves behind his two loving sons, Dustin and Dmitri Grassi; their mother, Christi Ann Ciccone; Dale's mother, Mary F. Grassi; sister, Deborah Grassi; brother, Daniel Grassi, brother, Douglas and Ann Grassi and their children, Timothy and Matthew; a special lifelong friend, Dennis Blabac; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dale was born and raised in Johnson City. A 1971 graduate of Catholic Central High School, he was employed as a Code Enforcement Officer for the Village of Johnson City. Dale enjoyed a lifetime of carpentry and building; he was also a talented and creative artist. He was an extraordinary cook, especially Italian, avid sports fan and lover of music. He hosted a weekly radio program on WHRW-FM at Binghamton University. A special thank you to Dennis, Paul, Christi and all those who gave so generously of their time during Dale's illness. We learned so much from you Dale, your sense of humor, your passion and love for life. You will be sorely missed. Always remember "You don't look sick", "Stop talking like that", "Make a bold move, go for it", "Somewhere over the rainbow", "Go Yankees! Go Giants!", and especially, "Let the music play, as long as there's a song to sing and I'll remain younger than spring".
Funeral Services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Johnson City where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, at the convenience of the family.

Family, So sorry to hear about Dale. As an Oakdale person it seems like family when something like this happens. He was a wonderful person and he was that way for 0ver 50 years. When ever you saw him you got that same smile and if you were real special a hug. the first faces i remember at my dads funeral were Dale and Dennis in the back of the church. Dale had that smile and everything seemed alright for a minute. My best to all of you and it is always nice to see you. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers

Any time I mention Dale's name, a smile (quirk buirk) comes across my face. As Dale was one of the original member of Roosters softball team, I will always remember the laugher Dale created to get the Roosters' "heads into the game". He was the complete package. Our condolences to the family.

My sympathies to the Grassi family. I met Dale through softball and we played many a game as teammates. We also became bowling buddies (Friday nights at Hilltop) and had some great times hanging out together. As time passed and our lives took us in different directions we would occasionally see each other at our son’s Little League tournaments. Dale is one of a kind and I’ll always have fond memories of him. His smile and quick wit will be sorely missed. Our little inside joke – when we would see each other we would start snapping our fingers. Dale, rest in peace.

Dale was a very special cousin. Having so many cousins, that speaks volumes. I remember talking with him when he was first diagnosed. He was very brave. Dale was always kind and accepting of others. We both were big ELVIS fans and shared many stories when I visited his office in JC several times a year. I will miss my most handsome cousin a great deal. I know he is in a better place and not suffering any longer. My prayers go out to his family and friends. If any of you need anything, my family and I are here for you.
