John Sherman Obituary

SHERMAN, JOHN J., 91, of Waldron Avenue, passed away peacefully Friday at home. He was the beloved husband of Mary Gloria (Trainor) Sherman for 64 years.

Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late John W. and Mathilda (Canning) Sherman.

Mr. Sherman worked for Perkins & Vaughn Shipyard during WWII where he built sub-chasers for the US Navy. He was a carpenter and boat hauler and founded Sherman Boat Haulers in 1954.

An avid sportsman, he played hockey and baseball; and had played for the Southern RI Baseball League. He was a lifelong, diehard Red Sox fan.

He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church.

Besides his wife he leaves a son, Michael F. Sherman of Saunderstown; two daughters, Sandra E. Crowell of Meriden, CT and Patricia M. Sherman of Saunderstown; six grandchildren, Kathleen Dougherty, Douglas Crowell, David, John, James and Michael Sherman; and four great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph Sherman.

His Funeral will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 9am from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Bernard Church, 415 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the St. Bernard Church Building Fund will be appreciated.
