Charles Lapointe Obituary

LAPOINTE, CHARLES W., 82, of Grant Dr., passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Agnes R. (Robidoux) Lapointe. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past March.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Charles W. and Bertha (Benjamin) Lapointe, he had been a resident of Coventry for the past 49 years.

Charles worked for 27 years at Ward's Foods Tip Top Bread before retiring. He later worked at Electric Boat in Quonset before retiring from there in 1988. A US Coast Guard veteran of WWII, he received two Bronze Stars from the Battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He was a member of the West Warwick DAV, the Knights of Columbus Blessing Council in Coventry, the Coventry Republican Town Committee, a communicant of SS. John & Paul Church and a member of the Bakery and Confectionary Union 'Tip Top'. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Besides his wife, he leaves his loving children, Stephen M. Lapointe and his wife Michele of Warwick and Shirley-Ann Hall and her husband Steven of Saunderstown, a brother, Edward Lapointe of Warwick and his granddaughter, Sarah Hall. He was the father of the late William C. Lapointe and brother of the late Pierre Lapointe, Rachel Dowd and Muriel Villari.

His funeral will be held Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 8:00 am from the Robert A. Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., Coventry with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in SS. John & Paul Church. Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations made to the SS. John & Paul Church Building Fund, 341 South Main St., Coventry, RI 02816 will be appreciated.
