H. Paul Obituary

PAUL, H. LEE JR., 86, of Harbor Hill Place, 159 Division Street, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008. He was the devoted husband of Danny-Lee (Fugate) Paul for 54 years.

Born in Lynchburg, VA on October 21, 1921, he was the son of H. Lee Paul, Sr. and Annie Belle (Robertson) Paul.

Mr. Paul was Professor Emeritus of Speech Pathology and Audiology at The State University of New York, Geneseo where he taught for 16 years. Previously he held a Professorship at Dartmouth College for 7 years. In addition he held teaching and research positions at The University of Florida at Gainesville, the University of Virginia and Radford College, Radford, Virginia.

He was a U.S. Army Air Forces veteran of WW II and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Flight Officer. He earned his B.S. and M.Ed. Degrees at the University of Virginia.

During his residence in New York he was a long serving member of the Emergency Medical Technicians of the Geneseo Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in Kiwanis. He was a Chalice Bearer at St. Michael Episcopal Church in Geneseo, NY and Sts. Andrew and Phillip in Coventry, RI. He was an accomplished and avid amateur radio enthusiast. He was a member of the Huguenot Society, Children of the American Revolution and First Families of Virginia (FFV).

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, H. Lee Paul III and his wife Annette of Ashland, VA, Kerry Ufford and her husband John of East Greenwich, and Lisa Koelle and her husband J. Patrick of Providence. He has two granddaughters, Katherine Doty and Elizabeth Bennett Koelle.

A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11 AM in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Pierce St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Rhode Island Free Clinic, 655 Broad St., Providence, RI 02907. For online guestbook and condolences visit robbinsfuneralhome.com.
