Jose Vargas Obituary
Born in Feteira Faial Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Rosa (da Luz) Vargas. He moved to this country in 1968, settling in Central Falls. He was employed by the American Insulated Wire Company for 26 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of CJ Lusitana and of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood of Charity Brightridge Club, where he was named man of the year in 2004.
Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Laura, and her husband Lourenco Lopes of Pawtucket, Maria, and her husband Antonio Duarte of Cumberland, Ana Vargas, and her fiance Jose Lima of Billerica, MA, Leonor, and her husband Steven DaSilva of Cumberland; his beloved grandchildren, Stacey, Stefanie, Thomas, Alyse, Angela, and Josef; one brother, Daniel Vargas; and five sisters, Liduina Sousa, Rosa Pereira, Leonor Abreu, Ana Escobar, Fernanda Campos. He was the brother of the late Francisco, Manuel, Carlos Vargas, and Maria Amelia Silva.
His funeral will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Mrs. Vargas & Family,
Please know our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family during this time. I lived next door to you at 117 for many years. Mr. Vargas was a wonderful and kind loving man. His smile and the pride he had in his garden will always remain one of my fondest memories of living there. After losing my husband Gene Dupras I will always remember how kind you and your daughters were to me. May God hold you close and may you find comfort in the Lord during this time. Bless you and your family. You will be in my prayers always.
