John O'Connor Obituary

O'CONNOR, JOHN C., JR., 'JACK', 69, of Tenth Street, died Sunday at the Miriam Hospital after being stricken at home. He was the husband of Marcia E. (McGovern) O'Connor. They had been married for nearly fifty years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late John C. O'Connor, Sr. and Katherine (McGovern) O'Connor, he was a lifelong city resident.

Jack was employed by the former Weybosset Pure Food Market, Almacs, and most recently, Shaws Market, for many years before retiring in 2001. He was a member of United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Local 328, and active in the Union Retirees Group. He was also a bartender at the former Rocky Point Shore Dinner Hall for many years.

A lifelong communicant of Saint Raymond Church, he was also an active volunteer at the Saint Vincent dePaul Society Food Pantry, the Rhode Island Food bank and the Cranston Senior Center.

Beside his wife Marcia, he leaves two sons, John C. O'Connor, III, and James V. O'Connor; two daughters, Carol Ann Dzialo and Donna M. O'Connor; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday, at 8:45 a.m., from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Raymond Church, 1240 North Main Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. in lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Raymond Chapter of Saint Vincent dePaul Food Pantry, 2 Matilda Street, Providence, RI 02904-1812 in his memory will be appreciated. boyleandsonfuneralhome.com
