John T. Gomes

GOMES, JOHN T., 76, of Hazelwood Avenue passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at home. He was the husband of Helena L. (Amaral) Gomes.

Born in Pedro Miguel, Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Joao T. Gomes and Rosa G. Vargas. John had worked for the East Providence School Department for twenty years retiring in 1997. He had also been a Police Officer in Faial, Azores for ten years. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood of Charity in East Providence and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sisters, Rosa Eduina Pereira and her husband Jose and Edila DaCosta and her late husband Rufino, all of Pawtucket; one brother, Jose T. Gomes and his wife Maria of Turlock, California; his nieces and nephews, Lidia and Jose Alves, Maria Analia and Jose Sousa, Gabriel and JoAnn Duarte, Jose Emanuel and Denise Pereira, Edila Maria and Joseph Wilcox and Rufino Costa. He was the brother of the late Maria Duarte and her late husband Antonio and Seraphim Gomes.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 8AM from the PERRY/MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, N. Carpenter St., East Providence. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours Friday 5-8PM.
