Elizabeth Sullivan Obituary

SULLIVAN, ELIZABETH 'BETH' (TOOMEY), of Harbor View Drive, Newport, RI, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2008 with her son and daughter by her side. She was the wife of the late Charles M. Sullivan, Jr.

Born in Newport to the late James and Helen Toomey, she grew up in Jamestown. She graduated from Rogers High School and served in the United States Navy WAVE Corps. She was stationed in many locations including Washington, DC during World War II. Beth was later a longtime employee of the New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1978. Following her retirement, she was employed by Portsmouth Abby.

Beth is survived by her daughter Barbara Carey her husband Richard of Quincy, MA; son Charles Sullivan wife Colleen of Rumford, RI; grandchildren Chuck Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, Nellie Sullivan, Lisa Carey; sister Mary Haughey of Jamestown; nieces Jacqueline D'Auria, Cathy Toomey; nephew Brennan Toomey; She was the sister of the late Lt. Col. James Toomey, Jr.

The family is sincerely grateful to Aquidneck Place and to the Newport Hospital, especially the nursing staff of the 2nd floor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at 9:00am, at St. Mary's Church, Spring St., Newport. Burial St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 1, from 5:00-7:00pm in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI, 02840.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beth's memory to the Women's Memorial Foundation, Dept. 560, Washington, DC, 20042-0560 or to a charity of your choice. www.onhfh.com
