Lena Martone Obituary

MARTONE, LENA (SIMONE), 81, of Plainfield Pike, Johnston, died Sunday, August 3, 2008. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late George and Jennie (DePetrillo) Simone.

Lena was employed by the former Sheppards Department Store and the Electric Company Baseworks until she became a mom and a homemaker. When her youngest son Stephan entered school, she took a job as a cooks helper at Winsor Hill Elementary School, went on to Ferri Middle School and then to Johnston Senior High School retiring in 1991 after twenty-six years working for the State School Lunch Program. During her life Lena had many friends who will miss her, especially Susie and Olga, her buddies of the Busy Hands Club and Pell Manor where she was President of the Tenants Association.

She was the beloved mother of Louis J. Martone and his wife Marietta 'Minna' of Scituate and Stephan Martone of Johnston. Mrs. Martone was the cherished grandma of Domenic and Stephan. Lena was the sister of Anna Villa of Fort Lauderdale, FL and the late Nichlaus, Guido, Pasco, Raymond, George Jr. and Domenic Simone and Mirinda Capilli. She also leaves Aunt Camille Parolisi of Bristol and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Lena was the former wife of the late Louis J. Martone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 645 Hartford Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fruit Hill Day Services for the Elderly, 399 Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence, RI 02911.
