Patricia Schreiber Obituary

SCHREIBER, PATRICIA L.

The family of PATRICIA SCHREIBER is sad to announce that she passed away on August 2nd.

Pat was first and foremost an artist. Her work showed in numerous galleries in the Mid-South and in the Providence area, culminating in a recent life-work retrospective called The Big Picture. She was an active member of 19 on Paper and two local artists criticism groups.

Pat moved from Memphis, which she never liked, to Providence and then Pawtucket, where she found a home and many wonderful friends. She was an avid swing and zydeco dancer, and was learning the tango. She was a secretary at the Miriam Hospital for many years and, while it was not her calling, felt fulfilled by her work with Dr. Timothy Flanigan on AIDS issues. She was a devoted member of Amnesty International, and gave generously to the charity Heifer International.

She is survived by her sister Shelley, her son Sam and daughter Kay, and three grandchildren, Molly, Rachel and Andrew. We miss her already.

A memorial celebration of her life and art will be held Saturday, Aug 9th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Warwick Art Museum, 3259 Post Rd., Warwick. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Amnesty International or Home & Hospice Care of RI.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Pat had been a member of the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, and had been instrumental in its founding. She was alway a person I could count on for sound advice. She was true to her word, a wonderfully talented artist, and lived her life bringing out the best in people. I will miss her.

My deepest condolences to the Schreiber family. I knew Pat professionally through our associations with 19 on Paper as well as Francois Hugot’s Grammar for Collage group. I enjoyed my conversations with her. She was smart, funny, and always insightful when talking about art and art making.
